MAX BRAUTIGAM - CLASS OF 2016 A quick disclaimer – you see movies like The Imitation Game, Selma, and Interstellar all getting high grades from me because they are all movies worthy of high grades. I try not to watch movies that don’t look like they’re good. Next time I go to theaters and accidentally see a piece of crap, I’ll be sure to let you all know. Now back on topic.

BECCA FOLEY & JULIA WARNOCK - CLASS OF 2015
BEST TWEET: FHS students have really stepped up their twitter game this year, making it tough to choose just one standout tweeter. JACK WARNOCK - CLASS OF 2018 THE INTERVIEW – B- In the highly controversial comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark (played by James Franco), and his producer, Aaron Rapaport (played by Seth Rogen), travel to North Korea to interview Kim Jong Un (played by Randall Park). However, the CIA interrupts their plans by recruiting them to assassinate the leader. Chances are, if you found other Seth Rogen movies, like Neighbors and This Is The End, to be hilarious, you are going to enjoy The Interview. BROKE BAZARIAN - CLASS OF 2016 Brooke Bazarian acts as an obnoxious Into the Woods know-it-all, and is then slapped in the face. In the winter of 2012, when composer Stephen Sondheim announced that his beloved stage musical Into the Woods would soon be adapted into a Disney movie, it was safe to say that I wished, more than anything, that it would not disappoint. Sondheim’s fractured fairy tale is my favorite piece of musical theater, so I guess my standards and hopes were a little high. (I will also use this fact as an excuse to act like an overly skeptical theater critic/geek for the next few paragraphs.) Nevertheless, I was excited to witness what was guaranteed to be a dramatic and dynamic adaptation of the story. The world could always use more Into the Woods, right? In the months leading up to the movie’s release on Christmas Day, pictures, posters, teasers, and trailers were doled out to fans like pieces of candy, giving the public glimpses of the film’s lush landscapes and dreamy sets. After my millionth viewing of the 1987 original Broadway cast recording, (AKA The One With Bernadette Peters,) I was ready to see the show transition from the intimacy of the stage to the grandeur of a Hollywood set. But would the glitz and glamour of the silver-screen strip the show of its heart and core? I’ll tell you! (But not yet).
ISABEL WOLFE - CLASS OF 2015 What comes to mind when you hear the word “scientist”? Perhaps you imagine a person with crazy hair, wearing a lab coat and goggles, feverishly combining chemicals in a lab. Probably an intellectual and serious person comes to mind. Some scientists fit the bill, but Richard Feynman, a professor, Nobel Prize winner, and jack of all trades, does not. Feynman’s book, a series of anecdotes from his life, is subtitled, “Adventures of a Curious Character.” Through his entertaining stories, Feynman shows that scientists are characterized, not by their intelligence or knowledge, but by their desire to understand the world around them. EMMA WALSH - CLASS OF 2016 Well, the year has finally come. We have all hoped its arrival would never reach us, but it was inevitable. This year Falmouth High School’s freshmen class is the first to have many students born in the year of 2000. No longer can everyone in the high school be referred to as a "90s kid," even though we are all just on the cusp. MAX BRAUTIGAM - CLASS OF 2016 & JOEY HAN - CLASS OF 2017 GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY – B+ What do an anthropomorphic raccoon, a tree creature with limited vocabulary, and Parks and Recreation’s Chris Pratt have in common? They are all showcase characters in Marvel’s new smash hit, Guardians of the Galaxy, the highest-grossing movie of the summer. Bright, popping visuals, colorful characters (I’m not kidding, two of the protagonists are green), and a tongue in cheek sense of humor, have helped Guardians of the Galaxy succeed, raking in a domestic gross of over $325 million, as of October 20th. The cast, in addition to Pratt, features Zoë Saldana, Dave Bautista, Glenn Close, John C. Reilly, and voice work from Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper. Guardians of the Galaxy works thanks to all of these elements, but most of all because it doesn’t take itself too seriously. IZZY GOLDBERG - CLASS OF 2017 As summer sadly comes to a close, so has summer fashion. Now that it truly feels like Fall, people trade summer bonfires for soccer and football games, and nature trades lovely 80-degree days and pleasant nights for brisk 40-degree weather. A fond farewell is bid to sandals, shorts, and t-shirts, and heavily anticipated vests, flannels, and boots are greeted warmly. So what’s in store for fashion this Fall? |
